North Dakota State will play on a Friday night in the postseason for a fourth consecutive year tonight, with a shot at Frisco weighing in the balance.
The short week has become old hat for the Bison and when I asked Chris Klieman about getting what some of us thought a “bonus home game” he told me, “It’s huge for our routine. Matt (Larsen) were talking about some things, when would we leave, would we have to bump finals up, guys are really excited about keeping our routine and for our seniors we’re playing our last possible game we can, at home.”
I remember the first Friday game NDSU played in 2012 against Georgia Southern. That was a hectic week as the Bison couldn’t practice inside the Dome on that Sunday since NDSU-UND basketball were playing that night. Craig Bohl was as uptight as I had ever seen him, trying to prepare for a triple option offense with an NFL player at quarterback would do that to you. That was the first time NDSU and its staff had to go thru the ringer of finals week and a semifinal game and we know the result.
The other games have all produced as well, Kansas State in 2013 (that was different, being the season opener) then New Hampshire later that year and last season with Sam Houston State. If there’s one thing football coaches and players crave, it’s routine and NDSU’s is solid for tonight. We’ll see if it pays off.
