Some Post Spring Ball Notes

There is no rest for the weary for North Dakota State football coaches as many of them hit the road this morning, some to Milwaukee, others to Kansas City as recruiting for the Class of 2020 is hitting its stride. There were quite a few 2020 prospects inside the Fargodome last night before the spring game. There was also a large chunk of the 2019 incoming freshmen there, including Davies’ Jaden Klabo, South’s Dawson Weisenberger, the Lakeville North twins, Eli and Will Mostaert (who even Matt Entz couldn’t tell the difference who was who, that’s how similar they look).

As far as the 2019 Bison, they are down another defensive lineman. Verndale, Minnesota’s Samuel Moore has left the team. Moore was part of the 2018 signing class and redshirted, he was a highly sought after recruit, Iowa offered him and he turned them down to sign in Fargo. I’m told by two sources that Moore will still participate in track and field at NDSU, just not football. Moore is the second D-lineman to leave, joining Tanner Sundt, who left the team earlier this year.

One name to watch on the D-line is Williston’s Dylan Evans. Evans made a couple of nice plays last night during the contact period and from I’ve been told, Evans has impressed the coaches and may work his way into the rotation at a spot that doesn’t have a ton of experience.

Another player that showed some growth this spring was sophomore safety Dawson Weber. Weber made a couple of tackles yesterday and may find his way onto the field in August. Destin Talbert, who played as a true freshman last year, has the makings of being a very good player. The Bison have depth at the cornerback spot, but Talbert has earned a look to play quite a bit in 2019.

Lastly, I’ll go back to redshirt freshman Jalen Sundell. Sundell was an outstanding athlete in several sports in high school, namely basketball and has shown steady improvement in his time in Fargo. AJ Blazek is going to have some interesting choices to make on the O-line when the Bison return for fall camp in August.
