Entz Closing in on Completing His Coaching Staff

North Dakota State head coach Matt Entz is closing on completing his coaching staff.

Grant Olson, NDSU linebacker from 2010-13, will return to Fargo to coach the linebackers. Olson was a student assistant in 2014 in Chris Klieman’s first year, then left for Laramie, joining Craig Bohl’s staff for two seasons. When Curt Mallory was hired as the head coach at Indiana State, Mallory hired Olson to coach the linebackers. Olson was part of a group that had the biggest turnaround in the FCS this season as the Sycamores went from zero wins to seven and should have been a playoff team.

David Braun is coming to Fargo from Valley rival Northern Iowa. Braun is a Winona State alum, the same school where Entz spent eight seasons. He played for Entz. Braun spent the last two seasons at UNI, where he coached the defensive line in 2017 and special teams and linebackers coach in 2018. Look for Braun to be the defensive coordinator for the Bison.

AJ Blazek is also coming to Fargo. Blazek has spent the last three seasons at Rutgers in the Big Ten as the offensive line coach and also held assistant head coach title. Blazek was known to be a great recruiter in his time in Piscataway, he was a two-time all-conference center at Iowa. Blazek also coached at Winona State with Entz and at Western Illinois for one season in 2013. Blazek was the offensive line coach for the Leathernecks while Entz was the defensive coordinator. Blazek will be the offensive line coach at NDSU.

Two sources have confirmed to me that Tyler Roehl will become the offensive coordinator for NDSU. Roehl has coached the running backs and tight ends since 2014. Randy Hedberg will be promoted to associate head coach and passing game coordinator while retaining the quarterbacks coach title.

There are a couple of positions open, running backs and wide receivers coach, which Entz was hoping to fill during the AFCA convention in San Antonio this week. A press conference may happen by the end of this week to announce all the moves.
